NYC to DC

NYC to DC
The first time I traveled to New York, I’ll admit I was expecting somewhere grittier and more… ’80s. I suppose I mostly stayed in Midtown Manhattan, which is probably the least “gritty” area around. So I was immensely pleased to glimpse this great industrial view while waiting on the street for a bus to D.C.

Sometimes you capture a perfect moment. We were on vacation in New York, horrifically jetlagged, in the midst of an excruciating heat wave, and pretty much about to give up on… well, everything. But this sweet smile in Central Park is one of the moments that has stayed longest and the kind of memory that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

Cabot trail

Cape Breton
This photo of the Cape Breton coast (not quite the Cabot Trail, but close enough) is in honor of all our relatives meeting there for a family reunion this week. We’re sorry to be missing the rich blue ocean, rugged landscape, kitchen ceilidhs, whales, and hugs, but we’re with you in spirit!

Indonesia evening

When we lived in Bogor, my commute home was usually in the midst of a thunderstorm, or at least under cloudy darkness. The rare days when the evening sun popped out changed the whole city, and I loved seeing the perfect colors and life like at this glowing street corner.

Singapore flyer

Singapore flyer view
We’ve been to Singapore several times now, and we’ve done most of the touristy things – on this trip, we decided to go on the Singapore Flyer ferris wheel. Funny story, we had just been shopping and were carrying around a large wooden box full of sharp steak knives, which somehow made it past Flyer security. And the hazy views of this busy, beautiful city were worth it.
